8.3. Configuring PollCat III with Saved
Parameters
Once PollCat III's defined parameters have been saved, the ASCII text file with the saved
parameters can be uploaded to the PollCat III to reconfigure the unit without manually defining
each parameter.
1. Enter PollCat III's Command Mode.
2. Configure your communications program to define <Line Feed> as the "Pace Character".
This will cause the Terminal Emulation Program to wait for a line feed before sending
each line of data. Save the Setup Options for the Terminal Emulation Program.
a) As each line of the ASCII text file is sent, PollCat III will respond with
"COMPLETE<CR><LF>". Your computer will wait for the <LF> at the end of this
response before sending the next line.
b) If you are using ProComm, press [Alt]-[S] to open the Setup Utility.
i. Highlight "Protocol Options" and then press [Enter], the Protocol Options menu
will appear.
ii. Highlight "ASCII Protocol Options" and press [Enter], the ASCII Protocol
Options menu will appear.
iii. Type Fand then type 10 and press [Enter].
iv. Press [Esc] twice, and then select "Save Setup Options".
3. Use the communications program to send the ASCII text file with the saved PollCat III
parameters.
a) Set-up the communications program to send an ASCII text file and enter a file name
for the file with the saved PollCat III parameters.
b) If you are using ProComm, press [Page Up] to activate the Send Parameters mode, a
dialogue box will appear. Select "A - ASCII", ProComm will prompt you to enter a
filename. Type in the name of the file and press [Enter].
5. As each line of the ASCII text file is sent, PollCat III will respond with the
"COMPLETE" message.
PollCat III will now be configured with the saved parameters.
Notes:
If the file with the saved parameters is sent to PollCat III via the Computer Port
(from a local PC), changes will take effect immediately.
If the saved parameter file is being sent to PollCat III via the Modem Port (from a
remote PC), Modem Port Communication Parameters will not take effect until
after you exit from Command Mode. If Command ^B16 is invoked to display the
Status Screen, the screen will not show the correct status for the Modem Port until
you have exited and then re-entered Command Mode.
Some parameters, such as ^B90 (Modem Port Communication Parameters) may
require five to seven seconds to generate a response.
