7.3.2. Local Alarm (^B87,1)
When Local Alarm is selected, the Alarm Message will be sent to a local PC. Providing your
communications program is active, the Alarm Message, clue name, and count will be sent to
the PC connected to the Computer Port. In Local Alarm mode, the ALM LED and Alarm Port
are enabled.
To use this mode, your system must include the following:
·A local PC connected directly to PollCat III's Computer Port.
·A communications program (e.g. ProComm) running on the local PC.
To select the Local Alarm mode, proceed as follows.
1. Enter the Command Mode and type ^B87,1 [Enter].
2. If you have not already done so, use Command ^B14 to set the Alarm Message.
7.3.3. Remote Alarm (^B87,2)
When Remote Alarm is selected, the Alarm Message will be sent via modem to a remote PC.
The ALM LED and Alarm Port are enabled.
When a Toll Fraud or No-Data Alarm is generated, PollCat III will notify you by dialing the
number entered at ^B14's "ALARM#?" prompt. The unit will then send the Alarm Message
defined at ^B14's "MSG?" prompt along with the clue name and counter status.
To use this mode, your system must include the following:
·An outside phone line connected directly to PollCat III's Modem Port.
·A remote PC connected to a modem.
·A communications program (e.g. ProComm) running on the remote PC.
To select the Remote Alarm mode, proceed as follows.
1. Check the Set-Up Switches to make certain Switch 6 is set in the DOWN position to
disable Direct Connect mode.
2. Enter the Command Mode and type ^B87,2 [Enter] to select the Remote Alarm mode.
3. If you have not already done so, use Command ^B14 to enter the phone number for the
remote modem (ALARM#) and define the Alarm Message (MSG).
4. When an alarm is generated, PollCat III will send an alarm message using the format
described in Section 7.3.8. In addition, the PollCat III will append a "/W"tothe
beginning of the alarm message.
