TROUBLESHOOTING
Troubleshooting the VS-6 Component Video switcher can be broken down into two main areas:
1) Hardware Issues
2) Control Issues
HARDWARE ISSUES
There are three basic problems that prevent proper operation of the VS-6 system. In the order of
probability the problems are as follows:
PROBLEM:
1. No Power
If the power connection is loose or not completely plugged into a live AC outlet, the system
will not operate. The symptoms can include: the power LED on the front panel is not lit
and/or no video signals from any of the six outputs.
SOLUTION:
• Check that the power cord is plugged into a live AC outlet
• Make sure the Main Power switch on the front panel is pressed in and the light
is on around the Main Power Switch
PROBLEM:
2. Video Switching
The VS-6 has six independent outputs. If any of the connections are loose or are
connected to the wrong output, the video signal may not show.
SOLUTION:
• Verify that each output (Component or Balanced CAT-5) is connected to the proper
destination
PROBLEM:
3. Video Quality
Component video is a video signal broken into three parts; luminance (Y), and two color
signals Pb and Pr. The VS-6 also has six independent outputs. If any of the connections are
loose or are connected to the wrong output, the video signal may not show or look wrong
with improper coloring.
SOLUTION:
• Verify that each output is connected to the proper destination
• Verify and correct any incorrect connection of each output by using color-coded
connection wires
• If using the Balanced Output connection, make sure all CAT-5 cables are properly terminated
using the T568A termination protocol, and that each Balanced CAT-5 Output is properly
connected to a Niles C5-HDDA Balun
