CONTROL OPTION #3:
IR Control From a Learning Remote Control
Almost all learning remote controls can be programmed with the IR codes to control the Niles
VS-6 Component Video Switcher. Niles has programmed the codes for control of the VS-6 in many
pre-made formats for popular learning remote controls. For the most up to date list of pre-learned
remote formats please refer to the Niles Technical Support website www.nilesaudio.com. If the
learning remote you are using isn’t represented you can take one of the files and load it into one
of the supported remote controls and then capture the codes from the supported remote into the
remote you will then be using. Please refer to Figure 8 for VS-6 dipswitch settings. Listed in the
appendix are the IR codes in a hex IR code format that can be typed into the programming software
for many of the popular programmable remote controls.
CONTROL OPTION #4:
RS-232
RS-232 is a control protocol that provides a direct connection with the VS-6. The VS-6 uses
the following communication settings:
Baud Rate: 19,200 or 9,600 (set dipswitch #3 accordingly)
Stop Bits: 1
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Flow Control: None
Dipswitch #4: Down
DEVICES THAT CAN CONTROL THE NILES VS-6 COMPONENT VIDEO SWITCHER VIA RS-232:
Niles iC2 Home Theater Automation and Control System
The Niles iC2 system has eight RS-232 ports that can be programmed to control one or multiple
VS-6 Component Video Switchers. The iC2 System is programmed via the Niles QuickConfig PC
configuration software and has the RS-232 codes ready in the library for integration with the VS-6.
Third Party Home Automation Systems
RS-232 string codes for control of the VS-6 are in the Appendix of this manual. They are also
available for download from the Niles Technical Support website www.nilesaudio.com.
