CONNECT THE CASCADE OUTPUT CABLES (IF NEEDED)
Connect the cascade output for each source that needs to be cascaded out to either another VS-6
or to a home theater receiver. Make sure that the three component video cable RCA jacks are fully
seated and that the color code is followed.
CONNECT THE ZONED COMPONENT VIDEO OUTPUT CABLES
Connect the three color coded RCA jacks to the zoned Component Video Output connection for
each zone that you are using analog component video cables.
CONNECT THE BALANCED CAT-5 ZONED OUTPUT CABLES
Connect a RJ-45 terminated CAT-5 cable to the Zoned Video Output connection for each zone you
are using balanced video CAT-5 cables. In the destination room where the balanced video signal
is being run, you must use a Niles C5-HDDA Balun to convert the video signal back to a standard
component video signal that can be connected to the destination display device. The Niles
C5-HDDA is available in two versions: in-wall and component. Please refer to the Accessories
section on page 15 for more information.
ATTACH THE DESIRED CONTROL CABLE
After choosing the control method, connect either a CAT-5 cable from the Out to Master connection
to any available RJ-45 port in the Communication and Control Switch of a Niles Ethernet
controllable MultiZone receiver, or the DB-9 connection plug to the RS-232 jack on the rear panel.
You may also choose to connect the 3.5mm IR input jack from an IR Main System Unit, or attach an
IR ﬂasher over the front panel IR sensor window.
SET THE CONTROL DIP SWITCHES
The VS-6 has a bank of eight dipswitches that are used to set-up the different control and design
considerations of which only the ﬁrst 4 switches are used. When a dipswitch is in the up position,
that sets the condition as ON, conversely when a switch is down it is OFF. Dipswitches 1 and 2 are
used to set the VS-6 Unit ID (Unit 1-4), dipswitch 3 is used to set the RS-232 communication baud
rate for either 9,600 (On) or 19,200 (Off) and dipswitch 4 is used to set the VS-6 for either Network
control (On) or RS-232 control (Off).
NOTE: MULTIPLE VS-6’S CAN BE USED TOGETHER IN STAND-ALONE OPERATION TO CREATE
A LARGER VIDEO-SWITCHING MATRIX. PLEASE CONTACT NILES TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR
INFORMATION ON CREATING LARGER SWITCHING ARRAYS AND CONTROL CODES NEEDED FOR
OPERATION. THE DEFAULT SETTING FOR DIPSWITCHES 1 & 2 IS ON (UP) FOR BOTH.
CONNECT THE CAT-5 CABLES TO THE COMMUNICATIONS PORT
Connect a CAT-5 cable to any available communication port for each IRG or other Niles Network Device.
