6 Cam Brake Assembly an d Installation

Read and observe all Warning and Caution hazard alert messages in
this publication. They provide information that can help prevent
serious personal injury, damage to components, or both.
To prevent serious eye injury, always wear safe eye protection
when you perform vehicle maintenance or service.
Use a brass or synthetic mallet for assembly and disassembly
procedures. Do not hit steel parts with a steel hammer. Pieces
of a part can break off. Serious personal injury and damage to
components can result.
Observe all warnings and cautions provided by the press
manufacturer to avoid damage to components and serious
Axle Shaft Universal Joint
1. Slide the first bushing onto the trunnion. Figure 6.1.
2. Press the first round bushing into the yoke slightly past the
snap ring groove. Check that the bushing is aligned with the
universal joint trunnion. Figure 6.2.
3. Use snap ring pliers to install the snap ring into the snap ring
groove. You must fully seat the snap ring into the snap ring
groove to avoid damage to the drive shaft. Figure 6.3.
4. Use a snap ring installation gauge to check that the snap ring is
fully seated in the snap ring groove. Figure 6.4.
